ABOUT US

OUR MOTIVATION

AWANA, which means loom in native Ecuadorian Quichua, was born in 2015 due to our deep admiration for handcrafts and ancestral techniques.

In collaboration with indigenous artisans from different areas of The Andes our goal is to maintain their traditions, materials and original garments, with a modern twist for today’s users. Our products (mainly alpaca clothing and toquilla straw hats) are carefully woven by craftsmen, who for generations have used their techniques as an expression of their folklore, customs and native materials.

Our utmost priority in AWANA, is to promote the sustainable development of indigenous handcrafts and work on the continued improvement of their quality and design, driven by a strong fair trade philosophy.
